17.8 million people watched House on Tuesday
It seems that I wasn’t the only person anticipating the return of one of the hottest shows on television this past Tuesday evening.
House drew in a 7.3 rating/18 share in adults aged 18-49 and 17.8 million viewers when it’s first new episode of the season, Words and Deeds, aired on Tuesday. Apparently these are the best ratings ever for an episode that wasn’t aired immediately after American Idol. Viewership was also up 30% over the same time last year.
Why did viewship increase so much?
Was it because Fox did such a good job building up the suspense leading to Dr. Houses trial for forging prescriptions? Were people wondering if the episode would see him put in jail?
Or was it just because it was one of the first shows to return after the holiday seasons with a brand new episode?
I suspect that both of those answers are correct. We spent a month and a half in some cases of watching re-runs of popular weeknight programming. In some cases the re-run episodes for any of the top 10 shows being aired from late November to early January had only been shown weeks earlier. Much to soon to have faded from our memories.
What do you think? Did you watch Words and Deeds on Tuesday night? If you did, was it because you were dying to find out what was going to happen to House, or did you watch because you’ve been bored with reruns?

Nope, I don’t get to watch House the same time that you guys do. It’s not carried by my cable provider… I hope they will sometime soon. I’ve watched seasons 1 and 2 though. I’ve yet to watch anything on season 3. I miss seeing Hugh every night before I go to sleep!
House is the best! (for me at least)
