Birthday for House co-star

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

robert_sl.jpg

Did you know that it’s Actor Robert Sean Leonard Birthday today! He’s turning 38.

If you’ve been hiding out under a rock for the last few years, Robert Sean Leonard plays Dr. James Wilson on the hit TV show House MD.

I was just thinking that we don’t hear him called Jim or James on the show very often do we? It’s always Wilson or Dr. Wilson.

You know, after the grumbling Dr. Gregory House, I think Dr. Wilson is my next favorite character on the show. Yes, I do like Dr.’s Cuddy, Cameron, Foreman and Chase too, but Wilson is my number two.

What order would you put the six main characters in if you were deciding who you liked most, and who you liked least?

BTW You know, if I could find a good poll system I’d do this question as a poll but all the ones I’ve tried kind of suck. If you know of a good poll that I could place in my posts every now and then I’d love to hear what it is.

Happy birthday Robert! I hope you’re having a spectacular day.

Re-run blues?

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

House fans … still going through re-run blues, lack of news about House Co-stars? Me too.

I did manage to find an interview that Hugh Laurie did with Extra right after the SAG awards in January for you.

Would you like to see it? At least video is better in some ways than photos … you can hear that smooth English accent of Hugh Laurie’s in this clip:

I’ve come to a conclusion

2007 Producers Guild Awards, January 20th, 07

Since all of the fans of House have been going through re-run burn over much of the last 8 weeks I’ve been busy scouring the internet trying to find anything to write about that has to do with the popular TV show or any of the co-stars.

I’m thankful that it’s been award season. Hugh Laurie winning at the Golden Globes and SAG helped provide a little fodder for my posts. One of House’s episodes being nominated for the Edgars was nice as well.

Unfortunately those were the only major appearances by any of the stars of House in the last two months.

Oh yes, Jennifer Morrison and Jesse Spencer got engaged but we didn’t really find out about it until after the fact and they’ve been silent ever since.

So what’s my conclusion?

Well, that the stars of House are pretty good at keeping themselves out of the tabloids.

No scandals, no dating news, no public appearances to gossip about? No births, no paternity suits? What the heck?

Are they goody two shoes? Or just really good at moving stealthily at the edge of the public eye?

My other conclusion is that Hugh looks pretty tasty in glasses - doesn’t he?

House “Clueless” nominated for an Edgar Award

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

4512137498.jpgI have no idea how I managed to miss this piece of news. In January the Mystery writers of America published their list of nominations for the Edgar Allan Poe Award.

The Mystery Writers of America created the Edgars as they’ve come to be know in order to award the authors of distinguished work in various categories of the genre. The Edgar Awards will be presented to the winners at our 61st Gala Banquet, April 26, 2007 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, New York City.

Now, we are House fans and we know that there have been some very well written episodes of House. Am I right? It’s nice to see that one of them- the “Clueless” teleplay by Thomas L. Moran has been nominated in the category of Best Television Episode Teleplay.

The Sophisticated Song

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

As many of you already know Hugh Laurie was a fairly big star in the UK in the 80’s and 90’s. One of the shows on which he made his claim to fame was “A bit Fry and Laurie” a comedy series. He starred on that show for four seasons.

Now that Hugh is staring in House he’s probably an even bigger star in North America than he ever was in Britain. His fame has grown.

There are a number of short videos on the internet that show Hugh Laurie at his comedic best. Some of them show him singing songs that he wrote and composed himself. I believe that the “Sophisticated Song” is one that he created on it’s own.

The song has a bluesy groove to it, but the wording is all Hugh. Here it is, performed by the man himself:

Can’t seem to find his cool? Hey Hugh - I think your cool has come into it’s own. It’s your fans that are just sitting there drooling these days.

What did you think of that little tune? He’s got some talent doesn’t he? Lip trumpet? Smooth voice, and he plays guitar. Your hired Hugh.

Re-Cap Forever

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

Originally Aired: May 09, 2006 , Re-aired Tuesday February, 20th, 2007

224house_foreman.jpg

Brent wakes up in the morning to hear the baby crying. He manages to wake himself up despite a stomach bug as his wife Kara comes in with their baby, who has colic. He leaves for work but vomits halfway up the stairs. He comes back up to the bathroom to find his wife giving the baby a bath but she’s passed out and the baby is under the water.

Kara and her baby Mikey are taken by EMTs to the clinic where Chase attends. House and Wilson come in and discuss how Wilson will be going to dinner with Cuddy to discuss funding. Cameron is waiting for House to announce Chase is working the NICU on Cuddy’s orders and Foreman is recovering but shows up and looks great, although House is skeptical. House is not impressed with Kara’s seizure symptoms until Cameron reveals they’ve already eliminated all the obvious causes.

No new episodes until March?

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Wow we’ve had a total of three new episodes since the year began - “One day, One Room”, “Needle in a Haystack”, and “Insensitive”. Now they are on a break again?

Yes that’s right. There isn’t going to be a new episode of House until March 6th.

As I told you in my last post House is one of the highest rated television dramas this season, yet they are toying with us. Handing out an episode every two or three weeks, or so it seems when you realize that by the time the next episode airs there will have been only three new episodes 9 weeks. I’m not even counting Decembers lack of new episodes in this tally.

All of the top shows on TV have been doing this but I’d say FOX is playing with it’s viewers the most. As far as I can tell it seems to have the longest gaps between new shows for all it’s top rated television series.

I’m getting sick and tired of this. I want to see a new episode every week for at least three months in a row.

The next new episode will be called Half Wit and it will co-star Dave Matthews of the Dave Matthews band. It will be episode 15 of season three …. that’s right, only new shows by that point - three solid months of episodes spread out over 6 months. Disgusting.

You know, unless the co-stars of House star partying in Hollywood or doing things that get them in the tabloids I’m going to have very little to write about over the next two weeks.

Lets hope Hugh Laurie does some table dancing or something.

House picked up for a fourth season

Monday, February 19th, 2007

Fox has renewed two of our favorite shows a little early. It was announced just the other day that House has been picked up for a fourth season, and Bones has been renewed for it’s third season.

As you probably already know, House is the top drama on FOX. It centers on Dr. Greg House, played by Hugh Laurie who is now a two time Golden Globes award winner. Dr. House is a brilliant yet unconventional physician. He brutally honest to a fault.

Did you know that the series January 30th episode, “One Day, One Room” was the highest rated drama broadcast on the 06/07 season on any network among adults 18 - 49. It was also the highest rated scripted telecast on any network in nearly a year.

In the last episode that aired, February 13th’s Insensitive, House had it’s highest rating ever among adults 18 - 49 tying with it’s January 30th episode, and the highest rated broadcast ever among adults 18 - 34, teens, women 18 - 34 and men 18 - 49 and 18 - 34. It also had the highest retention of it’s American Idol lead-in among adults 18 - 49 (86%) and adults 18 - 34 (93%).

In other words the last weeks episode was the highest rated ever. It’s a top show, everyone loves in and it’s coming back next year. Yeah!

Which I suppose is why they feel that they can get away with not giving us a new episode until March 6th? Huh?

More on this in tomorrows post. Stay tuned.

Recap - Insensitive

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

Originally aired: Tuesday February 13, 2007 on FOX Season 3

This episode begins with a mother and daughter are driving home from the skating rink and the mother is concerned because she fell, and that her friends weren’t careful enough. Hannah, is upset, and the mother is going to have the doctors check her and warn Hannah’s friends off.

They begin to argue back and forth and just as Hannah agrees to go to the hospital bright headlights are seen on the drivers side of the car and they are hit by a truck. Hannah tries to get free to get her unconscious mother out. Hannah calls 911 and says she’s fine even though she’s looked down and knows there’s a piece of metal in her leg.

In the next scene House is entering the ER and he runs into Foremans nurse practitioner girlfriend. He’s looking for Foreman and doesn’t want to put up with her valentines related questions. He sees Foreman tending to Hannah. House quickly determines she is insensitive to pain and orders tests suspecting something is wrong, then goes to talk to Cuddy.

He called the disorder seepa - I don’t know if that’s really several letters that sound like seepa that stand for whatever disorder caused her pain nerves to not form properly or if there is actually a word spelled in a similar manner that is this diseases correct name. I tried to look it up and can’t find it.

House M.D. Preview - Insensitive

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

Are you ready for the Valentines episode of House? In write up’s for Tuesdays episode, which is called Insensitive and is airing at 9 p.m. E.S.T, I’ve read:

A 16-year-old car-crash victim is insensitive to pain. She’s also very headstrong, and concerned about her mother, who was injured more seriously in the crash. Perhaps not surprisingly, House takes a particular interest in the girl. He also takes an interest in Cuddy’s date with a man she met online and keeps finding ways to interrupt it. And Foreman’s girlfriend, Nurse Wendy, has a Valentine’s Day getaway planned for the two of them

The previews that I’ve seen show House working with a patient who can’t feel pain and he must find a way to make her feel pain.

It sounds like it will be an interesting episode.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we couldn’t feel pain? I have a chronic disease that causes me pain each and every day, I’d love it if I couldn’t feel it, but when it’s not a constant in our lives pain is important.

Pain lets us know when we are sick, or when something is wrong with our bodies. Think how awful it would be to have appendicitis and not feel the pain associate with it? If you couldn’t feel that pain you’d more than likely end up dying when your appendix burst and caused peritonitis.

Think about that the next time you’re in pain - you’re body might be trying to tell you something important.

Here’s a preview of tonights episode.

I’d love to know what you think of the preview and the upcoming episode before it airs. It would be interesting to see if your preconcieved idea of the episode ends up being how it plays out.

For a complete list of the shows you should watch tonight see the New York Times article.

Graphic fun with Hugh Laurie

Friday, February 9th, 2007

Well I guess Hugh Laurie and the gang from House are taking a well deserved break. I mean after all look at all of Hugh’s wins this year at the award shows.

I haven’t been able to find any new news regarding our favorite grumpy doctor in the last few days, which is why I’m assuming he’s taking it easy.

I do have a treat for all of you who enjoy House and Hugh Laurie. One of my blogging friends- Andy from Sans Pantaloons is very good with graphics. Out of the blue he’ll just send me some amazing, funny graphic that he’s done up, or sometimes he sends me photos from Hugh Laurie telethons in Britian.

No I don’t mean that Hugh does telethons, just that a month or so ago there was a few Hugh Laurie related movies running on a UK television station one evening and my friend Andy took it upon himself to capture the movies and send me still photos of Hugh. I’ve been dispersing them through some of the posts ever since he provided me with the various photos.

Anyway … your treat. I’m sure you want to see what Andy sent me don’t you?

Click on the photo for a larger image.

Isn’t that fantastic? I could use it as a banner for the site.

Andy sent me another movie poster type graphic. It’s my favorite but I’m going to hold off on showing it to you now and I’ll save it for this weekend or sometime next week.

I hope you liked the graphic.

Back the same old Formula

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

hugh-laurie1 Did you notice that last weeks show was very different from all of the rest of the House episodes that have aired? It didn’t follow the formula. No- he pretty much dealt with one patient until he got to the bottom of things and helped her figure things out for herself.

I thought that the show might begin experimenting with a slightly different format but that seems to have been a one time thing since it seems we’re back to the old formula.

What formula is that? Well … It usually goes something like this- massive medical crisis- the team thinks it’s one thing. House agrees and tells them to test for it, that doesn’t work since a new more terrible symptom has developed, so the team gets busy figuring out what else could be troubling the patient- they come up with a plan and start treating the patient but it too fails … Finally, almost accidently they figure out what the problem is and ta da! The patient gets better almost over night.

I’m not in any way saying that I didn’t enjoy Tuesday evenings episode. It was very good and kept me guessing as to what the illness was, but it’s same old same old formula wise.

It’s a formula that definitely works for the show- if it wasn’t working Hugh Laurie wouldn’t have one a Golden Globes Award or an S.A.G. Award this year, and last.

It’s just getting predictable. The patient they focus on almost always goes through three sets of crisis’ and three different sets of tests and treatments before they suddenly save the person just in the nick of time.

Since things come in threes on House why not try three different patients each with a major medical crisis and each with a major inovative, possibly not yet approved treatment? Lets shake up that formula a little bit.

What do you think? Are you tiring of the same formula over and over again- or is that what keeps you coming back for more?
