HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

What are your children dressing up as for Halloween? My 6 year old son is going to be Leonardo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and my 3 1/2 year old daughter is, once again, a princess. One little boy, however, is going to be dressed up a bit differently. Remember Nickolas? Nickolas is the son of one of our House Flame Cane Winners. Nickolas is going to be Dr. Gregory House for Halloween! His mother sent me these great photos of Nickolas dressed up a his favorite cranky doctor. She has told him that he can’t be Dr. House if he’s going to smile, but Nick is too cute to be able to smile for too long! Enjoy the photos and here’s hoping that everyone has a safe, and enjoyable Halloween!

Want a few teaser photos from tonight’s episode?! I live to please!! Before the photos, though, I just wanted to let you know that I haven’t been able to discover if Hugh was able to make it back to the set on Monday or not. I haven’t heard that he DIDN’T, so I’m going to assume that he did.

The synopsis for tonight’s episode is as follows - enjoy the photos! I’m saving some for tonight’s recap LOL.

The team takes on the case of a man who collapsed while being mugged. When the man complains of new symptoms that do not fit his initial admission profile, the team suspects he is a hypochondriac. As Mr. X continues to fall ill with symptoms unrelated to his neurological disorder, Foreman and the remaining six fellows are assigned to keep watch, and are bemused as they see their own behavioral idiosyncrasies reflected through him. As they attempt to diagnose this human chameleon, they seem to learn more about themselves than their patient, whose true identity is a mystery. Meanwhile, Cameron and Chase keep a running pool on whom House might cut next from the team of candidates, and Foreman engages in a power struggle with House and Cuddy.

Do you see Cameron and Chase in the background of this one?! I can’t WAIT to see what THIS is all about!!

More on Why Hugh Left - Hugh Laurie Interview

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

3house_hallway.jpgIt’s been a few days and rumors are still circulating as to why Hugh left the set so unexpectedly the other day. I found a link to an interview over at Dr. Greg House.com that may help us understand why Hugh felt the need to take a quick, well-deserved vacation.

“I can’t switch off. I’m always thinking about the show. I’m too neurotic and anal and too convinced we’re going to fail to relax. Every show we do is a disaster, I’m convinced of it. I go home and my head is full of all the mistakes I’ve made.”

Hugh has been very honest about his battle with depression, but he feels that depression has nothing to do with his being a perfectionist. Instead, he feels strongly about not taking his gifts for granted.

“I don’t believe in God, but I have this idea that if there were a God, or destiny of some kind looking down on us, that if he saw you taking anything for granted he’d take it away. So he’ll be like: ‘You think this is going pretty well?’ Then he’ll go and send down some big disaster.”

It is so funny to me that he said this, because this is exactly how both my husband and I feel. We worry that if we don’t appreciate our children enough, they might be taken away. In this aspect, I understand exactly where Hugh is coming from.

The interview explains that, while he’s one of the highest paid actors on television, earning a bit more than $300,000 an episode, he works 14 hour days and truly earns his money. He lives in his apartment in L.A., while the rest of his family resides in London. Hugh admits, in the interview, that he never expected to be in this situation.

“It wasn’t a massive move when I first considered (doing House). What usually happens is you do a pilot and of the very few picked up, only about a quarter go to a second year. So I thought I’ll have three fun weeks. I never dreamt I’d be here three-and-a-half-years later.”

The busy actor did say that he flies back and forth “across the pond” as much as he possibly can, but I can imagine that it would be enough to strain a family relationship.

Kal in Superman Returns?

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

So here I was, trying to relax on a Friday afternoon. I decided to pop in Superman Returns - a DVD I haven’t watched since the time I bought it right after it came out. I begin to watch it, half paying attention to the movie, half browing for Chrsitmas presents online, when I suddenly saw Kal Penn! Kal was in Superman Returns!!

kal-superman1.jpg

Kal plays one of Lex Luthor’s evil henchmen, named Stanford. He’s the one who helps Lex to build the new island out of the crystals that resided at the Palace of Solitude.

Of course the movie ALSO reminded me about Nicholas Cage naming his son Kal-El….yeah, some celebrities are just a little bit nuts, don’t you think?

Hugh Leaves House?

Friday, October 26th, 2007

hugh-laurie.jpg

Looks like Hugh Laurie left the set with little notice on Thursday! Rumors immediately started flying that he was unhappy with the producers or the script, but his representative was quick to tell the press that Hugh was going nowhere.

“He’ll be back on the set on Monday,” she said.

So why would Hugh leave in the middle of filming so suddenly?

“Hugh had family obligations in England to attend to, but production is continuing in his absence.” A representative for the show said. He also replied that Hugh, “asked for time off and they were happy to facilitate it.”

A family emergency? Let me first say that I hope his wife and children are all right. Hugh has a well-publicised history of dealing with depression, and I hope that his return to England has nothing to do with a recurrance of that difficult condition. Hugh, your fans hope that everything is okay and we send you our support!!

Thanks NW for the tip!

Fare Thee Well, “Ridiculously Old Guy”

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

A lot of you have written to me, wishing I could do something to get Henry back. I’m so sorry but I have absolutely NO power at Fox (I barely have power in my OWN home!) I am as sad as you are to see him go. For the record, House hired him “as an assistant” until he figured out if he should keep him or not - he never promised to keep him as an assistant for a long time, he just wanted to give him a shot without giving him the ability to perform medical procedures, which would get them all in trouble.

The actor who played Henry is Carmen Argenziano. Argenziano was born on October 27th, 1943 in Pennsylvania (HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY MR. ARGENZIANO!!) He has played small parts, usually parts that call for him to be an overbearing, congtrolling figure. He has played in more than 50 films including Godfather II, The Accused, Stand and Deliver, Don Juan DeMarco, Gone in 60 Seconds, and Identity. He has appeared in more than 100 television movies and episodic dramas. In probably his most familiar recurring role, he portrays Jacob Carter/Selmak on Stargate SGI. He is also was Inspector Stanton Gerrard in CSI: NY.

Fare thee well, ridiculously old guy, we shall miss you dearly!

Guardian Angels Recap

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Well this was an interesting one! Oh, and I did watch the clock and there was only 15 minutes worth of commercials - yay! My THEORY is that House is less expensive to film than Heroes, but who knows!

Show starts with a 20 year old funeral home cosmetician named Irene. Irene speaks with an accent (I think it’s polish) and is cutting someone’s hair. She suddenly sees a dead guy behind her who starts to strangle her. Her boss walks in and sees her on the floor convulsing.

The team is in the lecture hall when the phone on the desk starts to ring. It gets answered and the intern puts it on speakphone.

House: Good morning Angels.

House informs them that they have a new patient - but there’s no file. His “Bosley”, who was supposed to delivery the file, is “ridiculously old guy”, also named Henry. Henry arrives and gives the symptoms of the new patient. House sends the “minority crew” to check the funeral home and her house while “all the white guys” are sent to give the patient some tests.

Cameron is in House’s office - she’s the one who gave him the patient. She asks him to lay off Cole and he refuses. She says that Cole’s gonna kick his ass - House pulls 100 bucks out and bets her that he won’t.

The white crew sets Irene up for a CAT scan. Her mother is there with her, soothing her through the procedure. The results of the CAT scan are clean and the crew that visited her home found nothing but organic food. Henry says that he’d found something interesting in the records - that there was a patient who died from symptoms of mad cow disease a few years ago, and that mad cow disease can be transmitted through brain matter. House tells them to go and get a brain sample from the dead guy.

Cole: I can’t. I have to be home by 6.

Turns out that Cole is a single dad! Taub asks where the mother is and Cole says that he doesn’t know.

Foreman is at a hospital for a job interview. Things seem promising, until the interviewer asks Foreman if he was wrong with the patient he was fired over, and Foreman doesn’t answer.

Interviewer: Looks like you didn’t get away from house soon enough.

Amber high-tails it to the ER where she asks Cuddy if she can do extra clinic duty (someone’s trying to get out of going to the cemetary). Cuddy tells Amber to do whatever House asks her to do, and that she doesn’t want to KNOW what House wants her to do.

The crew is at the cemetary digging - Taub hasn’t done any work at all. Amber shows up with coffee and doughnuts and the crew gets their brain tissue. Cuddy finds House and says that there’s dirt all over the floor in the doctors lounge.

Dr. Cuddy: The doctor’s lounge is covered in mud.
House: Thirteen and Cut-Throat Bitch were having a disagreement, and the cafeteria was out of jell-o.

House heads to the lab and discovers that there is no Mad Cow disease and we’re back to square 1. They go to give her more tests and she says that she wants to go home. Her mother is there and tells her not to drive, but Irene says that her mother can drive her. At this point the doctors notice that she’s talking to someone that DOESN’T EXIST.

More tests occur during which Irene refuses to admit that her mother died when she was 4. The doctors believe that it might be a hereditary problem.

Cuddy meets Foreman at a restaurant and offers him a job “controlling House” - he refuses.

Back to the patient - Henry suggests that they ask the mother why she’s dead, and House finds it an intriguing idea. He goes into the room with 13 and Irene says that there is a guy standing behind House. She calls him “Walter” and House leaves looking shocked. He walks into Wilson’s office and lies down on the couch. He explains that he didn’t have a “Grampa Walt” and that he’s trying to make the patient think that he believes her so that he can talk with the “dead mother”. He gets the symptoms from the dead mother (which include falling down, being tired and shivering) and tells his crew that it’s Parkinsons.

Cameron tells Cole that he has to stand up to House if he wants his job. Meanwhile House has been trying to irritate him the entire episode.

House: Big Love, have I irritated you in the last half hour?
Cole: No.
House: Check your e-mail.

Foreman is up for another job, but once again gets tossed over - this time because the interviewer has no balls.

Taub and Henry start arguing again and 13 and Amber take Irene into the eye lab to test for ocular problems. During which she starts throwing up blood. Chase takes her into surgery and they discover that her spleen is shot and her liver is dying. They take her for more tests and Cole notices that she’s got a cross on. He starts to whisper words from the bible to her and she tries to cop a feel, and not of Cole’s stethascope! They tell House that they weren’t able to get the test done because of what happened.

House: And you couldn’t let her get to second base to finish the test?
Kutner: Actually I think that’s third.

House starts going after Cole again and Cole slugs him! WOAH! Amber suddenly stands up and says that she knows what Irene has! Ergot poisioning - it’s when untreated rye ferments, it causes a hallucinogenic and explains all the symptoms. They tell Irene and she starts to get sad, realizing that she won’t see her mother again.

House arrives in the lecture hall with flowers (i.e. the Bachelor) and chooses everyone except - HENRY!

House: We’ve had some giggles

Henry says that he knows he’s gone because he thinks like House.

Henry: And you don’t need someone that thinks just like you.
House: That’s exactly what I was thinking.

guardian4.jpg

Foreman walks into Cuddy’s office and asks for a raise and a personal assistant to come back.

Cuddy: That’s very reasonable. But I’m not going to give it to you. You’re not here because you rethought things, you’re here because you’re blackballed. You’re House Lite now. The only administrator that will touch you is the one that hired the original.

She agrees to hire him back at his original salary and he says he can start Monday.

OH NO!! Henry’s gone!! I’m so sad!

What did you think of the episode and the illness?

Annoyances

commercials_collage.jpgI have a serious problem. Last night the hubby and I were watching Heroes about an hour after it had recorded (so 10 p.m. EST). We almost always use the DVR to record things because I work into the evenings on a daily basis. So we began fast forwarding through the commercials. We were done watching at 10:35. WTF?! Over 25 minutes of commercials?!

Tonight I’m going to be keeping an extra close watch on the clock. We generally DVR House and then start watching it at 9:30 - this means that, technically, I should be able to be done the show shortly after it’s done on television.

Do commercials annoy anyone else?!

New Week, New House

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

Sorry I was absent this weekend! We had a boiled dinner with my family and tried to bang out a lot of our Christmas shopping on Sunday - when you’ve got a 6 and 3 year old, it’s good to start as early as you can, no matter HOW sick it may be!

Cassie_Newton.jpgSo this week’s episode is called Guardian Angels. There are some photos below, but the face of this young actress caught my eye. I knew that I recognized her and tried to figure out where I knew her from! I did some research and discovered that her name is Azura Skye. Some photos popped up of her with blonde hair and she seemed even MORE familiar, but I still couldn’t remember where I’d seen her from.

After a little more research I realized that I’d recognized her from Buffy the Vampire Slayer (yes, I watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer - shut up LOL). She played a whacked out girl named Cassie who said that she could see bits and pieces of the future.

And now her hair is dyed brown and she’s a whacked out girl who can see ghosts. Typecasting, anyone?

I don’t know about you, but I am definitely looking forward to House tomorrow night! I missed it dreadfully last week and wound up watching some old reruns (which are good, but not quite as exciting as a new episode of House).

So do you think that this character can REALLY see Ghosts? And who’s the guy she sees that knows House?! Any theories anyone?

guardian1.jpg

guardian2.jpg
I love thoughtful pictures of Hugh Laurie!

guardian3.jpg
She REALLY gets on my nerves - coffee at the graveyard? Why not!

guardian4.jpg
I have to admit that I’m falling a little bit in love with this guy - think he’d adopt me as a surrogate niece or something?

Digressing a Bit

Friday, October 19th, 2007

Birth_Control_pack.jpgThere’s an article up at another 451Press blog, Parenting Your Children. Apparently Portland, Maine, has decided that it’s quite alright to hand out birth control (NOT condoms, birth control pills) to girls without informing their parents. Oh, and let’s get this straight: it’s not a high school, it’s a MIDDLE SCHOOL!!!

Okay - this is bad ALL THE WAY AROUND!

First of all, look at this through a doctor’s eyes (say, House). How can you effectively diagnose someone if you don’t know that they’re on a medication?! If they don’t tell their parent, they probably will be reluctant to tell their doctor as well. Secondly, some people have reactions to birth control pills. I have one friend who had to get off of them because they were causing her to have high blood pressure and high sugar.

This school is encouraging children to NOT talk to their parents! It’s absolutely ridiculous! I have a 3 year old daughter, and I am going to do my damnest to make sure that she feels comfortable talking to me, but if I think something is going on, I am definitely going to snoop, no two ways about it. Let me be clear: I am not going to go into my daughter’s room and search it if there is nothing going on. However, if she’s acting different and not opening up, I am definitely going to snoop so that I can know what is going on in her life. “Everybody lies” - especially teenagers. I swear it’s in their genetic make-up to lie to their parents at one point or another - consider it a path to becoming an adult.

So me? I’d be thoroughly pissed that the school board passed this and would be making a huge stink about it. How do you feel?

Interview with House

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

It’s pretty obvious that it’s going to take something major in order to get an interview with Hugh Laurie, but I woke up this morning and thought, “you know, I can have an interview with House!” So here it is, my interview with Dr. Gregory House!

Laurieinterview.jpgWatching House: Dr. House - first let me say thank you for agreeing to a phone interview with me today.

Dr. House: You got Cuddy to let me out of clinic duty so I’ll give you a few minutes. Then I have to go find my fellows and make sure that they aren’t killing anyone today.

WH: How are you getting along with the new fellows, Dr. House?

House: It’s good to have a plastic surgeon around - you never know when I’ll want to change things up and start looking like Michael Jackson so I can attract little kids. Number 6…or 9…is enjoyable as well, because if you can’t have your token black guy, you need to have your token Asian genius. Although, come to think of it, he’s not exactly a genius.

WH: And what about 13?

House: 13? I have a fellow that is unlucky enough to go by that number? Poor fellow.

WH: A lot of people are remarking on the similarities and differences between 13 and Cameron.

House: Cameron? Oh! The moron that’s wasting her talents in the ER hanging banana bags and stitching up gimps. I remember her.

WH: So Dr. House, what do you feel is the most important part of diagnosing a patient? Is it getting a proper history? Sneaking into their home to get the real story? Asking the right questions?

House: Drugs.

WH: Excuse me?

House: Without my vicodin I wouldn’t be able to function, and if I can’t function I can’t diagnose.

WH: If you had to pick one fellow right now to keep on, who would you choose?

House: I have to choose one? I sort of figured they’d all walk off sooner or later.

WH: So is there any chance that you and Cuddy will get together?

House: Been there, got the t-shirt.

WH: So no reconcilliation?

House: Reconcilliation? When you ride the rollercoaster once, do you need to ride it again to know that you’ll throw up?

WH: Ummm - I guess not. Well Dr. House, thank you for your time today!

House: *yelling to someone else* WILSON! I heard you’re dating another woman that’s going to die in a few months! Talk about a fear of commitment.

Wilson: (in the background) Yes, well, thank you for making that public knoweldge. You know, we can’t all be heartless bastards like you House.

House: Heartless bastard? I’ll have you know that just yesterday….*dial tone*

*sigh*

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

What am I doing right now? I SHOULD be getting ready to watch House. Instead I’m sitting here, working (being a freelance writer is GREAT - except for all of that ‘you have to be your own boss’ stuff - I’m terrible at making myself do stuff until it’s due on the last minute!) and browsing the net for House stuff. I WISH House were on tonight, but apparently it is not to be. Don’t the creators know that some of us NEED our House to get through the week?! Don’t they know that not all of us has the previous seasons on DVD (if anyone wants to buy me a Christmas present - HINT HINT)? Don’t they know that we won’t stand for it!!

Okay, maybe we WILL stand for it - after all, it’s not like we have a choice. And it’s not like last year either, when they yanked house for, what was it, three weeks?! Now THAT was torture! So I’ve got some photos for you, and I’ve got a debate:

My very close friend Katie, who writes for Watching Criminal Minds, brought it today when she wrote this post. Now I write for the Brad Pitt blog, as well (House is a vacation compared to the Jolie-Pitt family sometimes! Theyr’e so busy!) so she put up why she thinks Jennifer Aniston is better than Angelina Jolie. I can handle that, but in the end she said that Criminal Minds is better than House!

She must be silenced.

Enjoy the photos from next week’s episode!

The more I see of her, the more I like #13!! I hope we get to see her and Cameron in the same room! Do you think they’ll be allies or enemies?

No House Tonight - *sniff*

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

I ALWAYS look forward to Tuesday nights - but not this Tuesday. This Tuesday House is being preempted for BASEBALL. Baseball!! You’re going to take away my gorgeous, genius House and make me watch men wearing tight pants who’s primary purpose in life is to spit and smack each other’s ass?! If I wanted to see that, I’d visit a prison! 3house_hallway.jpgI’m going to go on a little rant, here. I don’t get baseball. When I was a child I used to visit my grandparent’s house. the guest bedroom (which was also the computer room) was directly across from their room. In the upper corner of their room was a television. They would put baseball on the television and I would fall asleep every time.

So, to me, Baseball on television is extremely boring. Now I have a six year old (turning seven all too soon), and I’m sure that when he gets into baseball I’ll have no problem enjoying his live games. I’m sure that I’ll stand up and cheer and be one of those moms - you know, the ones who yell at the umpire? But watching baseball on television is like watching racing - there’s no point!

So tonight we’ll be forced to find something else to watch on television. But what else is on Tuesday nights?! I honestly don’t know. Does anyone have any ideas? I’m gonna have to go check out TV Bender to figure out what I’m going to watch tomorrow night!!

House Rocks In Canada

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

Katie over at Watching Criminal Minds (side note: if you want to read a good writer, look over there!) dug up the top Canadian shows for October 1 to October 7th. Wanna see? Absolutely! Now, keep in mind that the numbers next to the show are the amount of viewers.

Pharmacy.jpg1. House - 2,663,000

2. Grey’s Anatomy - 2,446,000

3. C.S.I. - 2,350,000

4. Criminal Minds - 2,123,000

5. Survivor: China - 2,121,000

6. C.S.I. New York - 1,934,000

7. C.S.I. Miami - 1,923,000

8. Law and Order: SVU - 1,700,000

9. NCIS - 1,693,000

10. Dancing with the Stars - 1,657,000

Ha! We rocked! House came in number 1!!! How sweet is that! Of course, we know we have an awesome show, but it’s SO nice to see it vindicated, even in the land of the frozen north! Actually, I live less than 30 minutes away from the Canadian border, so I’m not surprised that this show is number one. They have a different sense of humor up there (kind of like in England), and they live quite a bit differently, even though most of them speak English (unless you’re in the Quebec province - never go there and try to leave Sherbrooke at 2 a.m. - you’ll find NO ONE that can direct you to the states in English…and it’s really annoying, especially when you have two friends snoring in the back of the car!)
