And The Writers Strike Is?????
Friday, November 30th, 2007
Lots of buzzing circulating today about the possible ending of the writer’s strike! And I’m here to tell you that the writer’s strike….
Is STILL going on.
According to Variety, the Writer’s Guild Alliance rejected the “groundbreaking” offer that was put forth by the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers (hence to be called the AMPTP, because it’s WAY shorter). the AMPTP offered the WGA more than $130 million in additional compensation to scribes over three years - but the WGA says that it’s not enough.
“That’s a little over a 3% increase in writer earnings each year, while company revenues are projected to grow at a rate of 10%,” Patric Verrone and Michael Winship said. “We are falling behind.” Verrone and Winship are the two presidents of WGA East and WGA West, respectively.
So what does this mean for us? Lots of people “in the know” are saying that this means that the strike will go on past Christmas. Some believe that it won’t end until summer! One thing’s for sure, the writer’s strike has already affected some of the best shows this season. For instance, it has caused Heroes to have the finale on Monday (and I still haven’t figured out how they’re going to ‘wrap everything up’ in one episode). And, as we know, new House episodes are being saved for the beginning of the year and for that sweet time spot right after the Superbowl.
*sigh* Poor House…
A lot of you are asking me what he’s doing in LA still with the writer’s strike still going on - I’m not sure! I have a few guesses though!
1. He didn’t know how long the strike would last and thought it best to stay in town, in case it ended.
2. He has more projects that he’s working on coming up.
3. He doesn’t want to leave the warm California weather.
I’m betting it’s either 1 or 2 - or a combination of both! What do you think??
Have a great weekend!
