Battling Depression and Relationships
I’m going to step in here and say that I have a tiny idea of how Hugh feels. I’m not a celebrity (well, maybe in my own mind I am, but nowhere else), and I don’t make Millions of dollars. I don’t have to live apart from my family, but I do battle depression. In my case, my depression is caused by a hormonal imbalance. Depression, however, can make someone feel as though they are apart from their loved one, even when they are sitting right next to them.
Many celebrities deny even the obvious. Look at Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez - denying the obvious. We need to give “props” to celebrities like Lindsay Lohan and Hugh Laurie when they feel comfortable enough to tell the masses about their private information.
Hugh lives apart from his family. I’m not quite sure why they have chosen to live across the world from each other. If it were me, I would want to live with my family. I’m not sure why Jo and the kids don’t move to California for 6 months out of the year - even if it’s an area a few hours away from the business of LA, Hugh would still be able to see them much more frequently. The decision, however, was made by the two of them, and it might work for them.
When you’re battling depression, it is important to have a solid support system - people telling you that they love you and that they’re there for you no matter what. Hugh - if you’re listening, we love you. We’re here for you and we know that you have the strength to work things out. I love watching House, but if it means that your relationship between your wife, and epecially your children, will be destroyed, I’d rather see you quit the show. My entertainment isn’t worth your relationship or sanity.

I agree with you, too. Perhaps Hugh Laurie, considering his problems with depression, should never have taken the role in the first place. Your family, health, and peace of mind are worth far more than fame and fortune.

What a lovely post. Really. I have been down in the dumps lately so I can relate.
And you are right in the end no matter how entertaining it might be for the rest of the world if he is miserable…
If you have the time I would recommend to see Stephen Fry’s ( as Fry from A bit of Fry and Laurie) documentary A secret life of a manic depressive… wonderfully touching and so informative and just eye opening..anyhow you will see

Great post!
I’ve suffered from depression due to a hormonal imbalance since the age of 13, so I totally feel for anyone who is also suffering with it.
It makes me sad to think about Hugh being so far away from his family all of the time. Selfishly, it makes me worry for the show because one day he might get tired of the situation and quit!
I’m so glad I found your blog!
