House Shut Out!

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

I just spent about an an hour watching the press conference. What? You didn’t know that the Golden Globes were reduced to a press conference simply because of the writers strike? Well, let me give you the rundown: House LOST.

hughglobes.jpg

Yes, LOST.

First, Hugh lost for best actor in a drama series to Jon Hamm from Mad Men.

Who - what?! WTF is Mad Men?

Next, House lost for Best Drama television show to…you guessed it…MAD MEN!

WTF!

I’m not taking it personally, though, because this round of Golden Globes seemed to be the Golden Globes where the actors/shows/movies that Randi doesn’t know all won. I mean, come on, what’s Californication? And Life Support? There were three movies that won that I know: Ratatouille (of course I know this movie…I have kids), Atonement (I HATE Keira Knightley), and Sweeny Todd (how the hell did THAT get on the list! Didn’t it just hit theaters…like…yesterday?)

Other than that, there was nothing that won that I knew. Then again, when the prestigious Golden Globes is turned into a press conference, anything can happen!

Writers Strike Affecting House?

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Will the Writer’s Strike affect House? That all depends on how long it goes on. The last writer’s strike in 1988 went on for five months. If that happens, House will DEFINITELY be affected. David Shore explained that they’ve got some scripts to last them awhile, but that if the strike goes on, House will have some problems.

He said that, should the writer’s strike go on for any length of time, he may play reruns of House and save the new episodes for sweeps (NOT FAIR SHORE!).

“I will work as a producer for as long as we have stuff to produce,â€? Mr. Shore said. “I won’t be working as a writer. That means we won’t have any new scripts coming along. As I see it, should there be a strike, we won’t have any choice but to shut down shortly after.â€?

Pray people - pray for it to get worked out so that we don’t have to suffer through reruns for another three months!

David Shore Chat

Judy - the ever web-wandering House lover - found a great site! It’s a chat that happened between David Shore and fans of House on May 24. Here are a few highlights:

Guest (May 24, 2007 4:17:08 PM) Where did the idea for House’s latest cane, the black one with the flames on it, come from?

David Shore (May 24, 2007 4:17:08 PM) Every now and again Hugh will ask for a new cane and he liked the red paint flame look and the props department got busy. He got into designing his own canes!

I have to admit - that got me! Imagine - Hugh Laurie designs some of his own canes!

Guest (May 24, 2007 4:37:24 PM) Mr Shore, I had heard that when Hugh Laurie auditioned for the part of Greg House, not only had the casters not heard of him before, they did not know he was English. Is that true? I ask because I am married to a Brit girl and have been acquainted with his work for years.

David Shore (May 24, 2007 4:37:24 PM) It is true that Brian Singer, the director, didn’t know who he was and didn’t know that he was English and went a step further to insist that that would not cast a foreigner because of logistics. But Brian watched the tape and was convinced Hugh was American. I knew that Hugh was great and English - a shock to Brian!

See, now that doesn’t surprise me - a casting director being shocked that an actor can actually ACT…amazing…

beanzy (May 24, 2007 4:43:24 PM) How did you come up with the idea for House? Is it based on someone you knew?

David Shore (May 24, 2007 4:43:24 PM) It’s not based on any one specific person but the House character was brewing for a while and I particularly liked the idea of a doctor who says the things they would only say once you’ve left the room to your face.

The proverbial fly on the wall! Brilliance! To see the entire chat log, click here.

Thanks again Judy!
