House Episode 5×07 - The Itch Recap

by Randi

Opens with a man lying on the ground with flowers also on the ground in front of him. People come in and crush the flowers – paramedics – and are trying to treat him. He is outside of his house on a stretcher when he punches a paramedic and runs back into the house.

Cameron is in front of House and the ducklings talking about the POtW. Apparently the patient and his girlfriend were shot seven years before, which is why the patient is now severely agoraphobic. Cameron knows that patient due to talking to him through the door when she as a community outreach doctor.

House sees Cuddy through the glass and she stops to talk to him. He heads out to talk to her. She hands him takeout menus as a ruse to talk to him. She says they only kissed because she was emotion and he let his human side show for a moment.

Cuddy: I just want to say thank you for not taking advantage.
House: You’re welcome. Any time you want to stop kissing, I’m there for you.

House goes back into the room and Thirteen asks what Cuddy wanted.

House: I hit that last night and now she’s all up in my jock.
Thirteen: Wow. Looks pretty good for someone on rufees.

The rest of the recap is below the cut!

The ducklings are trying to figure out what equipment they can bring with them to the POtW’s house. House sends them to do some tests and to search the home for toxins.

The ducklings and Cameron get into the POtW’s house. She’s using machines to try to provoke a seizure. The POtW apparently works writing tech manuals and is “very happy” inside his home.

Wilson goes into House’s office and asks about Cuddy. House says the same thing that he said to the ducklings. Wilson, however, believes him.

Wilson: There’s a reason…
House: Yes, those large things, in her bra.
Wilson: you were hiding it from me. Means it meant something to you.
House: Yeah, I fiendishly hid it in the phrase ‘I hit that’.

The ducklings call House, making Wilson leave, and start trying to diagnose the patient while House is asking about Cameron and Chase’s love life. House believes that the patient was too close to the outside and it raised his blood pressure. He wants them to bring the patient outside but Kutner points out that he punched out a fireman and that they’re not bouncers. (during the conversation he slices open a “bug bite” and puts a band aid on it).

House shows up at the POtW’s house with a bunch of people in an effort to bring the outside to the patient.

He walks with the people into the bedroom and the patient begins to panic and have severe stomach pain.

Cameron uses a portable x-ray to check his stomach. There is a partial small bowel obstruction. House goes into the patient’s bedroom and says that he needs to have surgery and that he needs to go to the hospital.

POtW: I made my wishes clear.
House: Uh huh – and if the crazy fairy was here, she could grant them.

The patient says that he’d rather die in the house than live out in the real world. House says he knows a surgeon who will operate in the house. Cameron catches up with House before he leaves and he explains that Chase won’t operate in the house, but will knock the patient out, bring him to the hospital, operate, and then slip him back before he even knows what happened. Cameron finally agrees.

Chase and Cameron are at the patients house and everything is set up for surgery. Before he gets knocked out, he tells Cameron she’s a good person. Chase and the team knock him out and take him out.

Wilson catches up with Cuddy at the cafeteria. She admits to kissing House because she was vulnerable.

Cuddy: I leaned on him.
Wilson: It’s funny, I’ve leaned on friends in the past…never leaned so far my tongue fell into their mouths…

During the conversation Wilson realizes that Cuddy’s thought a lot about how a relationship with House wouldn’t work, but he says that it might. Wilson is actually pushing Cuddy TOWARDS House!

Chase and Cameron are walking the patient through the hospital and talking about which house they should spend the night at. Cuddy finds the patient and finds out what happened and doesn’t want to let them have surgery and go home – she wants him to stay there for risk of post op infection. They leave and Cuddy points out that House’s hand is bleeding (from the earlier bugbite)
House: Huh. That’s weird. I usually don’t get the stigmata until Easter.

Cameron’s in the operating room with the patient and injects him with medications to wake him up. She tells him that he’s in the hospital and he starts to freak out. His blood pressure starts going through the roof and before she can sedate him he pulls his lines out and fights. They finally sedate him.

Apparently the patient woke up enough to call his lawyer and the patient is heading home. Cuddy says that they’re all off the case (is she TICKED).

Cameron catches up with House and wonders why he didn’t argue with Cuddy. Cameron and chase have a minor skirmish.

Cameron heads back to the apartment and is talking to the POtW through his steel door. He lets her in.

Wilson catches up with House again and believes that she kicked House off the case because they haven’t dealt with what happened. He says House is scared to get involved with Cuddy.

House: How is that scared? It’s rational.

House asks Wilson why it matters so much to him and he says it’s because he wants House to be happy. House thinks Wilson is trying to live vicariously through House.

House is on the phone with Cameron and they get Taub and Kutner to do the surgery in the patient’s home.

They cut the bowel and House checks it out under the microscope. Suddenly there’s a bleeder and the patients bowel is on fire due to the gas buildup. House saves the day by stopping it. They believe it’s Whipple’s disease and that the patient will be fine with antibiotics.

Chase goes to POtW’s apartment with coffee and the patient yells for her. His legs are numb and he can’t feel them at all.

Due to the problem that has just appeared, it’s not Whipple’s Disease. They wonder if it’s Celiac disease and House says they should force feed him wheat. Cameron believes House just wants to force feed him to get him in pain so that he’ll go to the hospital. Foreman says they’ll do both tests.

Wilson goes to Cuddy’s office and talks about how House accused him of being interested in Cuddy. He says that he’s always had some feelings for Cuddy but that his feelings are problematic because it’s to soon after Amber and it wouldn’t be fair to House. She asks him out to dinner and he says “okay”.

Cuddy: Or maybe it’d be better if we just had sex.
Wilson: Pardon me?
Cuddy: In front of House’s office. I mean, I don’t wanna take any chances. I assume the point of this is to make him jealous and make him realize that he does want a relationship with me?
Wilson: Yes. You think it’ll work?

Nice try Wilson.

The patient is eating the wheat and talking to Cameron about the situation that happened. He admits that he was agrophobic before the shooting, albeit not as bad as he is now. That he gets physical pain from going outside. The only reason he wants to go out was due to his girlfriend.

House goes into the lab and pours the blood out and, in a round about way, gets Taub to slow the tests down and wants him to slip saline into the patient instead of morphine so that he’ll get in so much pain he’ll come home. He also says that Taub is willing to do all of this stuff because his marriage is falling apart.

House is in his apartment and has set up an elaborate propane tank machine to attract the mosquito that bit him. The cap comes loose when he goes to whack the mosquito and then the stove turns on. Everything blows up…and then House wakes up.

He goes to Wilson’s house due to the mosquito, which Wilson doesn’t believe exists.

House: I’m not imagining things.
Wilson: House, you’re a drug addict, you’re always imaginings things.

Wilson thinks that the bug bite is actually itching that occurs whenever he thinks about Cuddy. He tells House he should either go home or go to Cuddy’s and kicks him out.

House, instead, goes to the patients house. The patient loses his pulse. House calls the lawyer to get permission to bring the patient to the house. He gets it, but then Cameron zaps him and gets him stable enough to stay at his apartment.

Taub comes to the apartment and puts in an external pace maker to keep the heart going. Thirteen remarks on how clean the apartment is. House goes into the patients room and asks how often he washes his tub.

POtW: Every couple days.
House: Bleach and ammonia?
POtW: Yeah.

Ammonia and bleach make chlorine gas which is fat soluable and is why his stomach is getting worse. Taub says that the external pace maker is going to fail eventually.

Cameron goes to Chase to try to get him to do the pace maker, but he says he can’t do it in the apartment. He says she asked because she just wanted a reason to be mad at him. He says that they spend all the nights at his place because whenever he was at her place she always kicked him out in the morning and never offered him a drawer.

Chase: I was just a visitor.
Cameron: How long have you felt like this?
Chase: From the start.

He tells her that he can’t keep chasing her forever and walks away.

House is sleeping in his office when Cameron calls – vitals are getting worse. She figured that House would put him on saline so she switched it back to morphine and the stomach pain is still there. House puts the xray he’s got up on the board and says that the patient is being poisoned.

House goes to the apartment and points out a density in the man’s hip. House believes that he has lead poisoning. He cuts into the man’s hip and starts pulling out little pieces of lead that were there after he got shot.

House says that the patient is miserable and that he’s a coward – that he was trying to leave the house the day he collapsed to leave flowers on his girlfriend’s grave.

House: You want to change your life, do something. Don’t believe your own rationalizations. Don’t just lock yourself up and pretend you’re happy.

He leaves and Cameron goes to see Chase. She tells Chase that she cleaned out a drawer for him – a big one – and he smiles and nods.

House is playing the guitar when he finally sees the mosquito. It lands on his hand and he just blows it off. He grabs his keys and heads out the door. He drives over to Cuddy’s house as we get flashes of the patient trying to leave his house and Chase putting his clothes in the drawer.

Taub’s on the couch and his wife climbs in next to him. Awww! House sees Cuddy in the window. The patient makes it onto the front porch and starts to walk down. House, however, turns around and walks back to the bike.
