House Shut Out!
I just spent about an an hour watching the press conference. What? You didn’t know that the Golden Globes were reduced to a press conference simply because of the writers strike? Well, let me give you the rundown: House LOST.

Yes, LOST.
First, Hugh lost for best actor in a drama series to Jon Hamm from Mad Men.
Who - what?! WTF is Mad Men?
Next, House lost for Best Drama television show to…you guessed it…MAD MEN!
WTF!
I’m not taking it personally, though, because this round of Golden Globes seemed to be the Golden Globes where the actors/shows/movies that Randi doesn’t know all won. I mean, come on, what’s Californication? And Life Support? There were three movies that won that I know: Ratatouille (of course I know this movie…I have kids), Atonement (I HATE Keira Knightley), and Sweeny Todd (how the hell did THAT get on the list! Didn’t it just hit theaters…like…yesterday?)
Other than that, there was nothing that won that I knew. Then again, when the prestigious Golden Globes is turned into a press conference, anything can happen!

It really is quite disappointing.
Got up early before work, to have a look at the gg-website, only to find out that House has lost against a show never heard of over here.
Losing against Dexter or Grey’s would have been ok, at least I’ve heard of the shows.
But isn’t it of any significance that none of the other shows have made it over the big pond?

I know!! I agree with both of you, and, personally, think that somebody was sitting on the board making sure that all of their favorite shows won, not the favorite shows of the people.

Those around me have informed me that the Golden Globe winners are selected by an exclusive group of people that are in cahoots with…okay, well, I don’t quite remember, but all I know is that the oddest shows can be chosen for reasons apart from their quality and popularity. In short, the awards don’t seem to mean much.

Sour grapes much?
Just because you haven’t seen something doesn’t mean it isn’t good. Mad Men is a fine show.
It’s funny that the awards mean everything when Hugh wins, but they’re scandalous and meaningless when he doesn’t.

No, I don’t have sour grapes at all! I’m sure that they’re great shows and movies, I guess what bothers me is that I don’t think that those making the decisions are in touch with the American public…the people who watch the shows and buy the movies.

The Golden Globes aren’t just for Americans and the merit of a show isn’t always going to be measured in how many households are watching it. God knows, a lot of people watch Big Brother but that isn’t going to win any awards any time soon. The idea that it would be okay for the show House to lose to one show over another simply because you’ve heard of it is strange.
Incidentally, I wasn’t just speaking to your post, but to the comments themselves. Especially the comment about the Golden Globes being in “cahoots” with someone that the poster couldn’t be bothered to remember. The HFPA’s sketchy background is well known, but that didn’t stop people from jumping up and screaming when they awarded Hugh two Globes in a row. There’s only a problem with them when they ignore him.

Well, Sarah, this is a Hugh Laurie/House site so I don’t think it is all that strange that people here are unhappy about Hugh and the show losing. In fact, I think it would be odd to come to this site and find a series of posts snarking at Hugh/House fans.
