How Good Was Last Night’s Episode?
A number of you have already commented, some by emailing to me and others by commenting on the post, about how last night’s episode went.
I’m going to come out right now and say: I agree.
I agree that it seems odd that House removed a symptom. House NEVER removes a symptom.
I agree that it was messed up to have Thirteen and Foreman fighting when they were at home in their apartment, and then to act like it was all a fake-out for House.
I agree that the show is slowly, but surely, going down the toilet.
What happened?! What changed House from an amazing show to one that is almost sad to watch now? I used to look forward to watching the show once a week, and now I approach the television with trepidation - worried that I’m going to dislike the show that I used to love.
Don’t get me wrong - I still love House. At least the character. I still love the idea of a medical mystery, but I don’t like the direction the show is going in.
Polite Dissent has got a recap of the medical part of the episode last night - he tends to agree with me, that it wasn’t the best episode, either medically or dramatically. What did you think of last nights episode? How can the writers fix the show?!

I agree; I, too, find that I start watching a new episode with nervousness rather than excited anticipation.
In a nutshell, the Fore-teen thing just doesn’t work for me. I don’t see any “chemistry” between them at all.
I also miss the little interactions House had with the various clinic patients.
What happened to the brilliant writer(s) who gave us the stories with Stacy Warner, Edward Vogler and Detective Tritter?
I read something from Robert Leonard (Wilson) saying that there was talk about an episode with Wilson’s estranged, homeless brother.
Also Mira Sorvino said her character (Kate from the episode “Frozen”) could be returning to Princeton/Plainsboro after her assignment at the South Pole ends. There were sparks between House and Kate via the internet - image the fireworks with them “up close and personal”. Now those sound like they could be VERY interesting!
SOMEBODY - Please help “HOUSE”. The show (and, of course, Hugh Laurie) is just too good to fade away!
RK
P.S. - Sorry this post is so long.

I’m sorry if I’m being rude, but, I disagree with AreKay, not in everything, in the part that Mira Sorvino and WIlson’s brother might come back be exciting. For me it’s just means they are getting out of ideas and getting desperate so they are pulling things back from the past because of it…
For me the show started the fall in the beginning of season three. I think they didn’t know what to do after they took the old team off, maybe, they didn’t even know what to do with them after third season and that’s why they took them off…
I hope they get (or have) some new fresh ideas again - instead of the cliches they are doing now, or the show will go down to the toilet…

“I agree; I, too, find that I start watching a new episode with nervousness rather than excited anticipation.”
Me too. Although I’d never stop watching - I love Hugh Laurie too much -, it’s not as exciting and positive as it used to be.
There’s so many things going wrong on the show right now, it’s hard to tell which one’s most urgent to fix.
First of all: two much concentration on one ship. Sure, there are a lot of Huddy shippers out there, but there’s also a lot of people (at least as much as Huddy shippers) who do not like that pairing (yeah, I’m one of them). This is not about cutting Huddy out at all, it’s about going back to the status where every viewer/every shipper was somewhat pleased. Little Huddy moment here, little Hameron moment there etc. I guess you get what I mean. I’m a H/Cam shipper myself, but I also wouldn’t want so much concentration on H/Cam either. It’s not what this show is about. DS made clear, there will be NO happy ending for House (at least relationship wise), so why piss off so many viewers by concentrating so heavily on one ship?! I’m sure every shipper agrees, it’s those little moments we appreciated most.
Second, two many storylines for the new characters (which I think is rather boring, I can’t bond with them), neglecting the original team. There are so many opportunities taking the focus off the new team while better integrating the original team (and no, not as House’s team, there are other ways). My favorite character next to House is Cameron, I miss her so much! And also we see her so little, her character development is pretty much the only thing I really love about the show right now. She has grown so much, it’s amazing!
Regarding the medical side (I’m a med student, it’s one of the main reasons I watch): the cases start to get less interesting, they even repeat in little variations, even though the world of medicine offers so many interesting cases. I also miss clinic, it was so much fun watching House hiding from having to do clinic duty.
I just hope they’ll find a way to bring back the “old” House, I’m really worried the current developments on House might be the end of the show.
And I agree with Lina, integrating Mira Sorvino’s character is a bad idea, there already are too many characters, we don’t need another one. If it’s only for one or two episodes, like I hope they’ve planned for Wilson’s brother, I’d be fine it.

I am one of the odd ones who happened to like this episode. I was very entertained! I’m getting tired of 13, and I do wish the shows wouldn’t focus so much on her, but I didn’t have a problem with the rest of the story at all. More Chase, more Cameron, more Wilson, less 13, less Foreman.. and I think it would be awesome again.

Mira Sorvino is pregnant again I think, so I wonder if this will affect her coming back????

It’s all Thirteen’s fault!!! Ever since she has been on this show things have been getting worse and worse. I was so excited last night when she “agreed” to go work at Mercy and then turns out. Oh no. She’s gonna stay and still work with House. Frick!!! Gah!! It drives me crazy. But still, why with “House never removes symptoms”? So what if he did. He solved a frickin sweet case in the way that he always solves cases. And the whole House/Cuddy/Wilson thing in the episode was great I thought. What I am hoping for is that in the end of the season when the one character leaves the show whoever that is, it better be Thirteen. Katie Jacobs and David Shore said a person is leaving at the end of the season, so it better be her or I will be pissed! But seriously people, stop trying to look at all the things they did on the past and gumble about what they are doing now on the show. If you are a true fan you will still love the show no matter what happens. Unless it turns to Grey’s Anatomy where everyone is doing everyone and everything. Thirteen….. Grr…

After the brillance of the S4 finale, I had very high hopes for S5. I thought it was mostly going to be House and Wilson trying to mend their friendship after the death of Amber. However they quickly scraped by that to focus on 13! why I don’t know. What is so special about this character that she gets more storyline than the one who the show is supposed to be all about!! And now we have to put up with all the 13/Foreman garbage!! The producers in my mind have tried to change the show too much, trying to fix somthing that was not broken. They need to get the show back to the formula that made it such a hit, and stop wasting time with secondary characters. The show is about House and House alone. In fact if it was not for the brillance of HL, I would of stoped watching the show.

I agree House is not what it used to be. I only watch to see Wilson and House/Wilson scenes. The cast is overcrowded and the medicine is terrible. My fav eppys are DCE, Not Cancer (H

do you remember season 4, in the end(last episode), and i quote from the recap “13 is in the lab getting her printout. She is positive for Hungtington’s.”. Back then i read that a lot of people cried, when that happened(my mother including). I think, back then, a lot a people felt sympathetically about her and that’s why in season 5 we get a lot more of her.
I also think she is the one leaving in the end(I think House will fire her because she can’t hold her body) and that’s the reason she has so much screen time… because when she is dead, she can’t come back.

I thought Mondays episode of House was pretty good. It seemed to be getting back on track. House’s refusal to go to Cuddy’s
party was part of his defiant personality, yet as he played the music at the end of the show==he was playing smew3hat of a Jewwish
theme in honor if the “baby naming” inferring that he might have liked to be there.
February 18th, 2009 at 8:47 am
I think it would help if they stop trying to get House and Cuddy together. We already know it’s not going to work, so why are they even bothering with this dance between them?
February 18th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
I’ll pay money for someone to tell me, What is the name of that “Jewish” song he was playing on the piano?
February 18th, 2009 at 3:51 pm
I honestly think we should contact the producers. My friends and I are getting disgusted with the show. Its boring! The attitude is “what nonsense will be shown this week. I think that the producers want to show the personal side of the characters which is fine. But it just doesn’t have that punch any more. Its going to lose viewers and the numbers. And that will really put Hugh in a depresion.
February 18th, 2009 at 5:53 pm
It wasn’t a particular jewish song, but there was a sound of a jewish melody in it

“Cuddy’s Serenade” by Hugh Laurie.
I want my money! Just Kidding.
Btw, I thought this was a great episode. Seriously, I just think everyone is being way too critical.

“The Thirteen Whines About Everything Variety Hour”
I heard that on a website. It is definitely what the show has turned into.
As of now, it’s hard to even hope it will get better, but you never know.
For one thing, obviously, they need to off Thirteen. Just have Foreman and Thirteen break up, she’ll be pissed and leave and Foreman will realize he was only staying on House’s team for her and he can leave too.
Then, BRING CAMERON BACK!!! I loved her and the little bits of chemistry we saw between her and House.
Also, bring Chase back. Maybe he was an idiot, but he was fun. Knew when to kiss up and when to stand up for himself.
Cuddy needs to go back to the character she used to be. This baby has softened her, which is annoying. No more House/Cuddy. It ruins the fun flirting between them.
House needs to act like more of an @$$, and Wilson needs to be funny and sarcastic again, instead of mopey.
More House/Wilson interaction too.
You know what? It would be easier to just start Season 5 over again, and House decides (since he’s angry that Wilson left and is being irrational) to fire the new team and bring the old team back. Yup yup. Highly unlikely, but that seems like the only way we wouldn’t have to deal with Thirteen anymore. Or any of this other crap that the show has been reduced to.
February 20th, 2009 at 12:52 am
It’s very simple really.
1. Get rid of 13! WAY TOO MUCH AIR TIME!!
2. More House WAY TOO LITTLE AIRE TIME!!
3. More Wilson and House PLEASE GOD!
4. More of the old ducklings, less of the new.
Personally for me, I think they hired all the wrong people for the new team. I LOVED the older dude who wasn’t really a doctor. What a hoot! He and House would get along SO WELL. Amber is a tough call. I hated her in the beginning and liked her towards the end.
5. CLINIC DUTY!!
6. We all know that Huddy will never work out
so get it over with.
February 20th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Stop with the Huddy crap.
Get rid of Thirteen and make Foreman back into the character he was in the first few seasons. He was less grouchy back then. Or just get rid of him entirely.
Less subplots.
More House.
More House/Wilson.
More clinic patients.
More interesting medical mysteries.
More like the first three seasons.
I can only really repeat what others have said countless times, but it’s all so true. I’ll keep watching for HL and RSL’s sakes, but otherwise…this season has me disappointed so far. Even four was way better than this. Thirteen needs to just GO already. Don’t the writers realize how much she’s hated by the viewers? The fact that people like even Cameron better than her is saying something. Course, I like Cameron more now than I did before, but maybe it’s all relative…
February 21st, 2009 at 2:29 pm
Yeah, bring back more Cameron. At least she doesn’t have that stupid “Mary Kate and Ashley” pout all the time. I’m so sick of seeing 13 do that. Does she have anymore facial expressions????? I do hope it’s her that’s leaving.

And, you guys call yourself House fans. House has absolutely dropped symptoms before. In the 3rd episode, Occam’s Razor, House drops the kid’s coughing as a symptom because it doesn’t fit in with the rest of the symptoms. Since it was the first symptom, and had its own explanation - the kid had a cold - House was able to use that to come up with a theory that he took the wrong cough medication. But the cough was not a symptom of his ailment.
It’s basically the same scenario. Cameron told House and the viewers that the hallucination was likely due to the alcohol. Like the cough, House was trying to fit something (the hallucination) into the overall diagnosis that not only didn’t fit, but had its own explanation (the alcohol). He even tested his theory using his white board.
I could do with less 14, but overall I thought the episode was great, maybe the fact some of you are viewing the show with trepidation BEFORE you even see the show is the problem. That kind of emotional baggage just breeds negativity.
February 22nd, 2009 at 2:29 pm
I started questioning the direction of the show when they had Wilson and Amber hookup even though there had been no indication what so ever before of them been remotely intrested in each other.
March 5th, 2009 at 7:05 pm
Awful choice in casting for 13. What were they thinking?! I get sick of looking at her, why don’t they just kill her off already? She can take Foreman with her too. I don’t think there are much people out there that give a stuff about them. I (along with my mate) were gravely disappointed that he didn’t die in Euphoria Part 2. I don’t care about their personal lives, the last episode I watched was too focused on the two and their scenes were boring the shit out of me. The show is about HOUSE.
I wouldn’t mind seeing more of the old ducklings as well, excluding Foreman because his being there is annoying enough as it is. I miss House picking on them, though Taub being only about 3-feet tall has it’s benefits.
I miss the stupid clinic patients too. There has been the occasional idiot every now and again which has been promising but there is a lack of them. There are plenty of them out there so where have they all gone? It is a free clinic after all.
I liked Amber too. She was good entertainment.
I haven’t heard anyone suggest Lupus or Sarcoidosis for quite some time either.
Still love the show though, don’t get me wrong. As long as Hugh Laurie, Robert Sean Leonard and Lisa Edelstein are still there I won’t be going anywhere and will continue loving it until hell freezes over.
I think that’s all I have to pi$$ and moan about. Lol.
