Hugh Laurie singing on Saturday Night Live

by

A couple of months ago, I think it was early November, Hugh Laurie hosted Saturday Night Live. He actually performed a song about two thirds of the way into the show showing off his musical talents by playing the guitar, the harmonica and singing a song.

The song in question is a protest song, with, for the most part, clearer words than anything I’ve ever heard Bob Dylan do, but yet similar to Bob Dylan’s style of music.

I remember the night that I first saw this. My husband was just getting ready to go to bed and I had changed the channel and to my amazement I saw Hugh Laurie on the Saturday Night Live show just beginning his song. We have a PVR so I was able to pause the program while I called for my husband to come back and watch Hugh Laurie sing.

I had no idea if his singing would be good or not. I knew that he had musical talent as I’ve both read about it and seen some of it when watching some of the old Fry and Laurie videos.

I love how this seems like it’s a serious song and then he throw in his own particular brand of humor here and there. Watch the video and listen to the words carefully:

So what did you think of that?

Thank you SO much for posting this! I saw the SNL episode myself, but waited too long to search for it online and never could find it. This was one of the best parts of that whole episode - that and the skit where he dressed up as a woman in the hospital with her “husband” who was there for a broken leg. Seein Hugh Laurie with that wig, those boobs, and the crazy high heels & mini-skirt was priceless! Anyone who watches him on a weekly basis as Greg House can appreciate the irony!
What a show! You really ought to check out some of his other clips online at YouTube from when he was a show called Frye & Laurie. There’s one he does called Mystery that’s hilarious!!! (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0SXH5Y9PEc)

I’ve been looking for this video on YouTube ever since I saw the SNL episode myself. I finally found it last night. Maybe someone caught a repeat and taped it and was able to make these clips recently.

I’ve got the doctor sketch and a few others from that episode, plus his monologue, which was also pretty funny, coming up in the next week. They’re all on Youtube now if you search for Hugh Laurie SNL.

If you go through the watching House blog I have a video category. I’ve already posted Mystery and a number of other videos from his Fry and Laurie days.

    Thanks for your visit!

    “Video no longer available.” Sob!

I’ve had a massive headache for a couple of days, from a pinched nerve at the top vertebra. I just found some old vicodin, popped one & was thinking of House(of course) when I stumbled across Watching House. :0D

Aw Skeet! I’m so sorry that the video isn’t available now. :( It was a good one. Have a peek in the Video category if you really want to see some Hugh Laurie or House video’s. I’ve got a fair amount of them on the site. I’m sure most of them work.

Hope your headache goes away soon. :(
