Hugh Nominated For ANOTHER Award
I think I need to give up and give Judy my job! She keeps finding these great articles before I do!
Hugh has been nominated by the Television Critics Association for individual achievement in a drama series. Here is the competition:
INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENT IN DRAMA
Connie Britton (”Friday Night Lights”)
Kyle Chandler (”Friday Night Lights”)
Michael C. Hall (”Dexter”)
Hugh Laurie (”House”)
Helen Mirren (”Prime Suspect”)
So why wasn’t House nominated for best show? Which shows were? They must have been really good if they were noiminated and now House, right? Let’s take a look…
PROGRAM OF THE YEAR
“American Idol” (Fox)
AMERICAN IDOL?! You shoved out HOUSE for AMERICAN FRIGGIN’ IDOL?! Can you tell I’m not a fan of idiocy?
“Friday Night Lights” (NBC)
Again - WTF? I have to admit that I have never watched this show and have absolutely NO interest in seeing it. And trust me - I enjoy TV.
“Heroes” (NBC)
Okay, now Heroes I DID watch and DID enjoy. Yes, I do believe that it deserves to be nominated for program of the year - not only because of its great characters and story line, but because it is something very different than anything else on TV.
“Planet Earth” (Discovery)
Planet Earth? Sorry - never heard of it - and I watch the Discovery channel and TLC all the time.
“The Wire” (HBO)
I don’t get HBO, so I’ve never heard of this one - but there’s a REASON I don’t subscribe to HBO - most of it’s repeat movies and crap! So I can probably safely assume that this follows trend.
“When the Levees Broke” (HBO)
There’s a whole program about when the levees broke? Seriously?! Dude.
So why was House not put on the list for best program of the year? Because critics are idiots and have NO idea what viewers enjoy watching. The.End.
Do you think that those shows deserve to be nominated for best TV program?

I am a fan of House, it’s a good show, but sorry, it’s not in the same league as Friday Night Lights. House uses the same formula every week. I mean really, it does get old.
FNL doesn’t have a formula. It’s beautifully shot and has fantastic acting. It’s hard to explain if you’ve never watched it. The characters are so real and their problems are ones everyone can relate to. It celebrates the small moments in life that other shows ignore.

I cannot imagine American Idol getting a nomination and House being left out!! crazy! But at least they do recognize the major talent of Hugh Laurie!!!

How can you judge the quality of the nominees if you haven’t even seen two-thirds of the shows? I haven’t watched any of those same shows, either, but I’m willing to accept the idea that they have worthy qualities.
You say that critics have no idea what people enjoy watching, but they must have SOME idea if they nominated American Idol, which is only the most-watched show in the country. Regardless, it would have been great for House to get a nomination, if only because it’s my favorite show on TV.
