Watching House

Oh now this is funny. I came across an article in The Daily Record that is titled “Surgeons Sexier than Other Docs“. When I read the first line of the article - “SURGEONS are better looking and taller than other doctors, according to research out today.” I burst out laughing. I’ll explain why in just a moment.

A report published in the British Medical Journal shows women prefer George Clooney playing Dr Doug Ross in ER and Patrick Dempsey as Dr Derek Shepherd in Grey’s Anatomy to real-life medical staff.

The researchers got female doctors and nurses to rate pictures of male physicians and surgeons as well as a group of actors - including Clooney, Dempsey, Harrison Ford and Hugh Laurie.

Unfortunately the article seems incomplete because it doesn’t list how the actors compared to the real life doctors and surgeons that the female doctors and nurses worked with. My guess is that the women found a fair amount of real life doctors and surgeons equally as appealing as their actor counterparts.

Now we all love Hugh Laurie as House, but why he’s even listed in this article I’m not sure because he’s not a surgeon.

The reason why I laughed when I saw the title of the article is because I’m an Emergency room nurse. Working in the emergency room not only allows me to work with all of our ER doctors, plus the EMS paramedics, police, and firemen that bring patients in to the emergency department, plus all the doctors from all the specialty services - surgery, cardiology, plastic surgery, orthopedics, medicine etc come to the department regularly to see at least half of the ER patients.

So I’ve been able to see and interact with the majority of the doctors in our hospital and while many of the surgeons are indeed quite nice looking, not all of them are tall, and they are not always the best looking doctors in the hospital. Personally I think some of our ER docs are pretty hot and I’m thankful that I get to see them for many long hours as I work. The EMS, firemen and policemen are pretty nice eye candy as well.

Don’t you think I’m a lucky girl?
