Who is Hugh Laurie?
Hugh Laurie playing Dr. Gregory House M.D., has won a number of awards for his outstanding character in this remarkable television series. He’s the doctor we love to hate, but recent polls also say he’s the one we’d most want to treat us if we were deathly ill.
Awards our favorite Brit has won:
- Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an actor in a TV series
- Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by a male actor in a Drama
- An Emmy nomination for Outstanding lead actor in a Drama Series
- he’s been honored by the Television Critics Association with two TCA Awards for individual Achievement in Drama the last two years.
Most North Americans only know Hugh Laurie for his performance on House M.D. and in such films as “The flight of the Phoenix” but he’s had a long standing career in British Comedy series such as “A Bit of Fry and Laurie” and “Jeeves and Wooster”, as well as the dramas “Blackadder”, “Masterpiece Theatre”, and “Saturday Live”.
Prior to becoming an actor Laurie studied Anthropology at Eton and Cambridge University. He also rowed for the University 1980 rowing team.
